5 Tips to Increase your Metabolism and Lose Weight Fast

The fastest and easiest way to lose weight is by increasing your metabolism. However, it can be confusing to know what will speed up your metabolism and what could drastically slow it down. Here are 5 simple tips that will show you exactly how to boost your metabolism.

Reduce your calories by a maximum of 500 per day. Never go below 1000 calories a day as it would be very unhealthy and harmful to your body. Your body needs certain amounts of nutrients and energy every day to survive. If you starve yourself too much, your body will see this as a threat to its survival. Your body uses fat as a way to store energy in case you don’t have enough food for a while. So if you don’t provide your body with the food it needs, your metabolism will slow down and try to keep as much fat as possible.

Eat more often. Eat 6 small meals a day, this will prevent your body from thinking that it doesn’t have enough food and thus keep your metabolism constantly high. Eat meals every 3 hours, as food takes about 3 hours to digest. Eating more frequently will also prevent cravings between meals and increase your energy.

Eat more protein. Eat high-quality protein, such as chicken, eggs, or fish, with each meal. Protein will provide your body with the building blocks it needs to repair and build cells. You need to provide your body with protein frequently as it can only be used for a maximum of 3 hours within your body. Without protein sources from food, your body will have to break down muscle, resulting in less muscle mass. Decreasing muscle mass will lower your metabolism and the number of calories you are able to burn throughout the day.

Lift weights. Weight lifting will build and strengthen your muscles. Muscle is the engine that drives your metabolism, the more you have, the higher your resting metabolism will be. Lift weights 3 times a week, but only train each body part once a week. For example, legs on Monday, chest on Wednesday, and back on Friday. Do total body lifts like squats and deadlifts as they will stimulate the most muscle fibers and increase your metabolism that much more. Increase the weight every week, this will increase your strength and muscle mass.

Cardio workout. Try to do high intensity cardio for 20 to 30 minutes every other day. The best time to do cardio is in the morning on days you don’t have weight training. This will keep your metabolism high between weight training. Try to slightly increase the intensity of each workout, this will prevent your body from adapting to the workout.
