Bichon Frize – Perfect Apartment Dog?

The Bichon Frize is a white tassel of a dog with black eyes, eye rims and halos, lips, nose, and foot pads. Known for having fewer barking problems than other small dogs, the Bichon Frize is a delightful pet dog, but you do have to adapt to certain life routines as this particular breed needs attention. Today, the Bichon Frize is primarily a companion and show dog. An independent, affectionate, and charming breed, the Bichon Frize is highly social, competitive, and obedient.

Breed characteristics

A cheerful attitude is the hallmark of the breed and one should not settle for anything less. Structural failures common to all breeds are as undesirable in the Bichon Frize as in any other breed, although such failures are not specifically mentioned in the standard. Any color that exceeds 10% of the entire coat of a mature specimen is a fault and should be penalized, but the color of accepted shades should not fail in puppies. On March 5, 1933, the Societe Central Canine de France adopted the official breed standard, written by Madam Abadie of Steren Vor Kennels. The International Canine Federation recognizes the Bichon Frize “as a Franco-Belgian breed that has the right to be registered in the Origin Book of all countries”. When looking for a Bichon be sure to find a reputable breeder to get the best personality traits this breed has to offer. Another way to locate a quality breeder is to contact your local Bichon Frize club.

Puppies

Puppies are very fragile creatures and can easily break bones if they fall, kick or fall on them. Puppies typically have a beige, apricot, or cream color to their ears or head that almost always fade to full white. Puppies learn valuable lessons in the first eight weeks of life from their mothers that cannot be learned from anyone else or at any other time in life. As puppies, some Bichons have beige to apricot markings on the head or body, but this color usually fades during maturity. Talk to different breeders and ask them about their puppies and the temperament of dogs, what care and needs are needed for their specific breed. Then check out dog rescue agencies, adoption dogs for sale, and puppies for adoption, as they would all make great pets. Pride and integrity are an integral part of raising great Bichons and placing beautiful puppies in qualified homes. Because dysplastic dogs often produce dysplastic puppies, buyers should ask if both the father and mother of the puppy they are interested in have been classified as hip dysplasia free by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals or by Penn. HIP. Due to the lively personality of Bichon Frize puppies, they generally get along well with most other animals in the house. These puppies are best trained at home in an appropriately sized dog crate; one that is large enough for an adult Bichon to stand up and spin freely.

Training

The Bichon Frize are an intelligent breed, but they are generally difficult to train. Home training is not difficult as long as you follow the instructions and set aside some time to get it right. Cage training makes it much easier to train the dog. The Bichon Frize dog can become spiteful and stubborn if not treated with positive training methods and lots of love. Without spending a small fortune and without spending hours fixing and training. This intelligent and full of personality companion will definitely require loving guidance and training to become the exceptional artist (undoubtedly his nature) who doubles as his best friend. Additionally, training your dog is not only for your benefit, but also for the happiness, health, safety, and general well-being of your Bichon Frize. Constant, firm, loving and positive love is important to training your Bichon Frize. Basic obedience training should begin as early as possible to ensure that the bichon becomes a pleasant friend and is acceptable to the wider society.
