A detox diet is a nutritional effort in the direction of purifying the body of toxic and chemical substances that have been left in the body for a long period of time. Many of the celebrities and addicts in the past have endorsed the effectiveness of this diet. It has been shown to provide better health, less chance of infection and disease, a healthy state of mind, high energy levels, an easy digestion process, and most important of all, it helps you lose extra weight. But, just like a coin has two sides, scientists have shown that detox diets cause serious side effects, especially in young and developing adults.

The toxins that accumulate in the body are not completely expelled by the body only during excretion. These toxic substances share a strong propensity to linger in the body’s gastrointestinal tract, digestive tract, and lymphatic system. These toxic substances, if they stay in our body for a long time, will cause health problems and various problems, such as headaches, vomiting, nausea, and fatigue. So while it has the positives cited by celebrities, it also has the negatives that make the effectiveness of this detox diet bleak. People who have gone through this diet say that one has to stop eating other foods that are full of toxic substances so that the body is not overloaded with toxins.

The detox program emphasizes a fasting method in which one has to stop eating some foods for quite some time. But one can return to these foods after a few days, slowly including them in the daily intake. The detox diet encourages the use of herbal supplements that help expel toxic substances from the body by acting like natural enemas.

During the detox diet program, the person must drink fluids for a few days. You should eat only boiled vegetables, fruits and brown rice. Little by little, other foods are introduced into the diet, but foods such as sugary dairy products, eggs, red meat and other junk foods are strictly avoided. People who have benefited from this program claim that it helps expel all harmful toxic substances from the body. But, this in itself is not enough proof to show that the body can regain its stability and become strong and healthy once again.

However, beginners should only use this detox diet for a short period because it can cause negative effects if carried out for a longer period of time. Children in their teens and early adulthood should not try this program because their bodies need all those extra carbohydrates and proteins during the process of growth and development.

Another perplexing issue when it comes to the detox diet is that it is addictive. If they have undergone this diet program, there is a chance that such people will end up confused about what to eat and what not to eat and eventually end up staying away from food. Apart from this, the laxatives used during this program can lead to dehydration due to urination. When the body urinates excessively, nutrients that are helpful can also leave the body, thus causing an imbalance of vitamins and minerals in the body. There are also high chances that the detox diet program will cause some gastrointestinal and digestive disorders. Metabolic processes slow down during the fasting period, which will result in weight related problems.

The detox diet may have certain advantages, but staying away from certain foods that can be very important for the body’s development and health is not good for the body itself.
