How to reassemble the table lamp

Have you ever needed to disassemble your table lamp, perhaps to replace a damaged globe or socket, only to find that you have no idea how to reassemble it? While they may seem terribly complicated, these types of lamps can actually be quite simple to rebuild.

Step 1: Place the base on a flat work surface followed by the body; the base often has a hole in the center, through which the power cord exits, while the body must have a hole at each end.

Step 2: Slide the downrod through the top hole in the body, through the bottom hole, and through the base. Place a washer over the end of the downrod and screw it into place. Then thread the cable through the bottom of the rod and exit at the top. Screw in the neck (if your table lamp has one) and the harp.

Step 3: Place the cap of the gland over the bottom of the harp and screw it onto the stem, making sure it is facing up. Wrap the ‘hot’ wire around the gold screw on the socket and wrap the ‘neutral’ wire around the silver screw.

Step 4: Place the socket housing over the bulb socket, making sure to tuck the wires inside. Squeeze the ends of the harp and slide them into the bottom of the shell, then screw in a light bulb.

When assembling your table lamp, it is important to note that there may be additional steps or even fewer depending on the type. If you get stuck trying to reassemble the lamp, you should contact a lighting specialist or even the manufacturer for advice.
