How to replace the taillight on your Ford Expedition

The Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV (sports utility vehicle) that was built by the Ford Motor Company and introduced to the market in 1997 as a replacement for the previous model, Ford Bronco. The Ford Expedition is Ford’s flagship SUV. Current third-generation models of these vehicles are produced in Kentucky from their previous base in Michigan.

The Ford Expedition, like any other vehicle, requires proper maintenance to reach its full capacity.

Some of the most important parts that need proper care include the exterior and the rare lights of the vehicle. Therefore, Ford Expedition is no exception to this maintenance and care. Ford Expedition taillights (taillights) are of the utmost importance and every driver of the vehicle must ensure that they are working properly at all times.

Replacing the taillights on Ford Expedition is often considered a chore job and many times, people seek specialized help. However, this can be simplified by following the simple guide below. With practice, one can likely become an expert in taillight replacement on all Ford Expedition vehicles.

The taillight is located in the same place on the rear of the vehicle, one just below the other on the Ford Expedition. The only tools needed here are a T – 20 torx wrench or a 9/32 wrench. The first step is to open the entire liftgate, not just the glass to expose the lamp assemblies. There, you will see two or even three Phillip screws holding the taillight / lens assembly in place. Unscrew them and set them aside.

Carefully remove the lens and point it at the light. There are usually three “push ins” that hold the lens. It may feel like more bolts, but if you pull evenly and diagonally out of the vehicle, they’ll come out fine. There are normally two bulbs in the set of all Ford Expeditions.

The top one is the brake / turn signal light bulb and the other is the backup bulb. Typically there are two sets of wires once you turn off the light. These wires are the light bubbles and they come out by turning counterclockwise and then pulling on them. Get rid of all leftover lens.

Once the area is clean, place the bulb in the new lens and turn it clockwise to snap it into place. Secure the two screws that were set aside. Ford Expedition auto parts stores recommend a 4157LL over the Sylvania 4157K and this works perfectly.

This process should take at least ten minutes and you are ready to take your Ford Expeditions on the road. It is always advisable to replace the taillights as soon as they break. Of course, this will avoid facing the wrath of law enforcement, as well as for security reasons. Therefore, all Ford Expeditions drivers should find this process easy to learn.
