ImPulsTanz wants to offer “unique bandwidth” again in 2021

After a slimmed-down edition in the previous year due to the corona, the Vienna ImPulsTanz Festival wants to draw on the full this year and shine again between July 15 and August 15 with “a unique range” of innovations and revivals. Two pieces by star choreographer Meg Stuart have been announced, which will take place in the newly renovated Volkstheater. Advance sales for selected productions will start on May 18th.

The US dancer and choreographer Stuart has been a guest at ImPulsTanz several times. In this year’s edition she is represented with her latest work “CASCADE”, for which she has brought theater maker Philippe Quesne to her side: seven dancers will “indulge in a rhythmically complex game of refusal and care”, as it is in an announcement on Thursday was called. In addition, Stuart’s piece “VIOLET” with the live sound of Brendan Dougherty can be seen again, which was already performed in 2011 in Vienna.

Also after a decade, Alain Platel is taking up his piece “Gradenia” again – albeit in a new version that will be premiered at ImPulsTanz. On board are again director and author Frank Van Laecke, the composer Steven Prengels and eight of the nine actors from the original cast.

Maguy Marin’s “Environment”, an “uncomfortable choreographic reflection on power, religion, love and the endangerment of our planet”, which was shown in 2006 and 2009, as well as Marco Berretini’s “No Paraderan”, which is “laconic-cheeky”, are programmed as “Classic” Settlement with the Society of the Spectacle “is described.

Once again, the Museum Quarter is one of the venues. The Leopold Museum leaves an entire floor to the festival. It is used, among other things, for the solo piece “invisible 2” by the Swiss choreographer Anna Huber and for performances and installations by the South Korean artist Geumhyung Jeong – including robotic dolls. In mumok, which is also located on the MQ area, Tamara Alegre contrasts Viennese actionism with a feminist replica with “FIEBRE”. Astrit Ismaili’s pop opera “MISS” and “Melodies are so far my best friend” by Mathias Ringgenberg aka PRICE are also on the program.

In addition to the dance and performance productions, more than 180 workshops and research projects are planned in the Vienna Arsenal. Children are just as welcome as senior citizens in the hands-on projects. As part of the 2nd Viennese cultural summer, the free trial course “Public Moves” will again take place from July 8th to August 15th in the arcade courtyard of the town hall, on the Danube Island and on the Kaiserwiese in the Prater.

The booking start for the workshops and research projects will start on April 15th. In addition to pre-sales for selected productions from May 18, tickets are available for all other performances from June 15.
