Kitzbühel – Usually the expensive vintage cars adorn the chamois town of Kitzbühel in spring, namely when the now traditional Alpine rally takes place in May or June. However, the corona pandemic thwarted the 33rd edition and required a postponement. The organizers did not lose their optimism and fixed the period from September 30th to October 3rd. A few days before the start, however, dark clouds came up again because Germany had issued a travel warning to Tyrol because the number of corona infections had increased. That didn’t silence the engines, numerous participants didn’t want to let the fun and adventure be deprived of them, even though there were “many short-term cancellations”, as press spokesman Albin Ritsch announced.

At least the route and the weather played along, because with Brixental, Inntal, Brandenbergtal, Achental, Alpbachtal, Zillertal and Wildschönau, the classic car drivers could enjoy the wonderful mountain panorama to the fullest. There was also a detour to the Pinzgau in Salzburg. “It was a great Alpine rally,” said organizing committee boss Markus Christ. “It’s good that the Corona rally defied.” Alexander Linz and Michaela Beznaus, who won the Sports Trophy with the Alfa Romeo Giulia “Carabinieri” (1972), were also delighted.
