Materials for car floor mats: What material do I need for my vehicle?

Automotive floor mats are the first line of defense for your precious factory floors in your car, truck, or SUV. That presents the car mats with the difficult task of being able to withstand varying levels of abuse on a regular basis, while also providing an additional level of comfort and complementing the vehicle’s interior aesthetics.

Vehicle manufacturers have attempted to solve the unique problems faced by car mats by creating a multitude of material types, each of which aims to provide adequate protection for the vehicle’s intended use.

Aftermarket carpet and floor mat manufacturers offer products that use materials and colors designed to match OEMs while offering improvements over the originals.

What original materials are available?

Cutpile

– Cut Pile is made of 100% Nylon thread.

– Tufted into a 1/8 gauge cut pile, contains 14 ounces of yarn per square yard.

– Cut Pile has been an original material in most domestic vehicles since around 1974.

– The Cut Pile material can have a mass backing. The dough backing is an EVA material approximately 45 mil thick. It is a great acoustic and thermal barrier and increases the overall appearance of the carpet after installation.

– The material width of the cutting pile is 78 inches.

Circle

– The loop material is made of 100% nylon 6,6 yarn called Raylon

– With 1/8 gauge tufts, Loop contains 20 ounces of yarn per square yard.

– Loop material was originally used in vehicles manufactured before 1974.

– Loop material can have mass backing. The width of the bow material is 78 inches.

Nylon

– Nylon is made of 100% nylon thread.

– With 1/8 gauge tufts, nylon contains 12 ounces of yarn per square yard.

– Nylon material was originally used on the late 1960s Ford model.

– Nylon material is available with our optional Mass backing.

– The width of the nylon material is 78 inches.

Truvette

– Truvette is made of 100% Nylon yarn.

– With 5/64 gauge tufts, Truvette contains 14 ounces of yarn per square yard.

– Truvette material was introduced in the early 1990s for Corvettes.

– Truvette material may have Mass backing. Mass backing is an EVA material approximately 45 mil thick.

– The width of the Truvette material is 78 inches.

Daytona

– The Daytona woven rug is made of cotton, nylon and rayon yarn.

– Daytona contains 27.5 ounces of yarn per square yard and is a loop-style rug.

– The Daytona woven carpet was introduced around 1954 for GM vehicles.

– Foam backing only, Daytona cannot be mass molded or backed. It is cut by hand and sewn with the highest quality control.

– The width of the Daytona material is 54 inches

Tuxedo

– Tuxedo is made of nylon and olefin filament yarns.

– With 1/8 gauge tufts, Tuxedo contains 23 ounces of yarn per square yard.

– Tuxedo material may have mass backing.

– The width of the tuxedo material is 52 inches.

Big point

– The Gros Point material is made of 100% nylon thread.

– Gros Point contains 31.5 ounces of yarn per square yard and is a fine loop style rug.

– Gros Point was developed for the first classic muscle, full-size passenger car models built in the 1950s and 1960s.

– Foam backing only, Gros Point cannot be mass molded or backed. It is cut by hand and sewn with the highest quality control.

– The width of the Gros Point material is 54 inches

What are the aftermarket options?

Essex

– Available as an optional upgrade for most of our ACC floor mats

– Essex is made of 100% nylon thread.

– With a 1/10 gauge cut hair strand, Essex contains 22.5 ounces of yarn per square yard, giving it a luxurious and luxurious look and feel.

– Essex has been available as an aftermarket material option since the late 2000s. It is a premium, modern take on the Cut Pile material. It can be specified for almost any vehicle model.

– Essex material may have massive backing. The dough backing is an EVA material approximately 45 mil thick. It is a great acoustic and thermal barrier and increases the overall appearance of the carpet after installation.

– The width of the Essex material is 78 inches.
