Passions for deer hunting

Hunting big whitetail dollars every year is not a passion but an obsession. I prepare all year for the season to come, so I will be ready when that male approaches. I hunt in northern Mississippi on a 2,500-acre ranch where the largest dollar in the state of Mississippi skyrocketed. Each and every year my dad and I shoot around ten and thirty dollars ago to keep the management in place so the population is not overrun by deer. Hunting white-tailed deer can be very easy, or it can sometimes be one of the hardest things you’ve ever done. Deer can see, hear and smell better than most animals and do not cause mistakes. When hunting deer you have to be quiet, very still, and make sure to bathe that day so you don’t stink.

Last year, during the routine of the season, I was sitting on the rostrum looking at the deer that were in the field when I saw a large eight pointed run out of the forest. I didn’t have much time to get into position and shoot because I was chasing a doe and wasn’t slowing down at all, so I shot it on the run. About thirty minutes later, I stepped off the stage and tried to find deer blood, but couldn’t. So I went back to the barn and grabbed a track dog and my friends and I went to get this dollar. My friend Trey found a bloodstain on the ground, we left the dog and he went into the woods. Shortly after we put the dog down, it starts barking and that means the deer is still alive, which is bad for us because we didn’t have a gun with us. So we ran off to the sound of the dog in a strip of forest cut about eight feet wide and when we got closer to the dog we stopped and we could hear something that was heading straight for us getting closer and closer. Trey looked at me and yelled, Run! Just as we take off running, the deer comes out onto the cut path and starts running straight towards us. While carrying us, the deer trips and falls to the ground a meter from us and dies right there.

That was one of the scariest situations I’ve found myself in since hunting deer. I have never been attacked by a deer before and I never want it to happen again and the next time I go into the woods for a buck, I will definitely have a gun with me. Even though that happened, it will never stop me from hunting and being outdoors. Everyone should experience nature as it is and go outside as much as possible because it can calm you down and give you a sense of calm. Even if you are not hunting, you can still enjoy seeing deer and whatever else you can see if you take the time.
