Redding: An Amazing City in California

Redding is a wonderful city nestled in the midst of beautiful mountains. The city is surrounded by fertile land against the background of a natural landscape. This city has grabbed the designation of being one of the largest cities located north of Sacramento.

The city is a county seat of Shasta County of the state of California. With an estimated population of around 108,741, it ranks as the fourth largest city in the Sacramento Valley and Central Valley. This magnificent city is situated along the Siskiyou Trail, the route that used to connect California’s Central Valley and the Pacific Northwest. Initially, the area was inhabited by Native Americans from the Wintu tribe. Pierson B. Reading was the first non-native settler. The railroad came to the area in 1872. The area was named after Benjamin B. Redding, who was the first real estate agent for the California and Oregon Railroad. It became the county seat of Shasta County in 1884 with an initial population of about 9,492. The city saw slow but steady growth until World War II. The city of Redding acted as a gateway to several surrounding recreational areas.
