Shag Past and Present – History of this great hairstyle

The long hair hairstyle is a boyish cut in which you have short, layered hair. Most of the hair is layered at the crown rather than underneath. Paul McGregor had invented the Shag hairstyle and gifted it to Jane Fonda in the movie Klute. Farrah Fawcett wore it on the famous Charlie’s Angels TV show and it became something of a phenomenon. Shag is the classic hairstyle from the 70s and considered one of the ‘coolest’, as it was worn by the heartbeats of that time. David Bowie, Rod Stewart, everyone who was anyone had the shaggy hairstyle. During the 1980s, heavy metal rock bands that wore their hair in long haircuts wore adaptations of the shaggy hairstyle. The long hair hairstyle was the latest unisex style and both women and men wore it with impetus.

Another theory suggests that in the 1960s men had begun to wear their hair long after the styling process brought on by African Americans in the 1920s. In the 1970s, when hairstyles changed and the styling process faded , men were used to wearing long hair. So in the 80s, they grew their hair out at the back of their head while keeping it shorter at the top. This was the first form of long hair hairstyle used by men, which was soon adapted to various styles.

The 70’s was an era of youth, the end of the Vietnam War added that it was the turning point for them. Platform Shoes, Disco and Beegees; This newfound youth was perhaps the reason for the appearance of this carefree, youthful and messy hairstyle – the Shag hairstyle.
