Salzburg – The cooperation with the big Japanese competitor Toyota is unfolding to the fullest: After the market launch of the compact SUV Across, an offshoot of the RAV4, Suzuki will follow up next month: Then the Swace will roll to local dealers. This model is a compact station wagon that basically takes up the technical basis of the RAV4, the Across, the Prius and the Corolla.

The Swace is unusually long for a Suzuki model: it measures 4.66 meters from the front to the rear apron, and is 1.79 meters wide and 1.46 meters high. One of the vehicle’s major strengths is its storage space: the loading compartment has a capacity of at least 596 liters, with the rear seat backs folded down it is 1606 liters.

A second strength relates to the type of drive. Here, Suzuki restricts itself to the use of hybrid technology, which has proven itself millions of times over at Toyota, which provides a combination of a 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor. The engine duo produces 122 hp in the ensemble, accelerates the station wagon from zero to 100 km / h in 11.1 seconds and can achieve a speed of up to 180 km / h. According to WLTP mode, its standard consumption is 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers, while CO2 emissions per kilometer are limited to 103 grams, at least on the test bench. Incidentally, a continuously variable automatic (CVT) is supplied ex works.

Even though Suzuki almost ordered the Swace from Toyota, the designers managed to design the station wagon differently in some areas than its technical brother Corolla Touring Sports: the hexagonal radiator grille with honeycomb pattern and the bi-beam LED Headlights in front, the roofline sloping sharply to the rear and the integrated roof rails. No less than seven exterior finishes are used.

For the interior, Suzuki promises high-quality, soft materials, clearly readable instruments and an eight-inch display for the modern infotainment system.

As far as the availability of driver assistance systems is concerned, the Swace draws on a wealth of options: the offers range from blind spot warning to cross traffic warning and adaptive cruise control to intelligent parking assistants and lane keeping assistants with steering assistance and lane following functions.

Suzuki has planned two levels of equipment for the new compact station wagon: The base, called Shine, is already quite well set up, including polished 16-inch aluminum rims, LED parabolic headlights, rain sensor, a seven-inch multi-function display in color, a leather gear knob , two-zone automatic air conditioning, heated seats, a reversing camera and the aforementioned infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen, six loudspeakers and a Bluetooth interface. Flash stands out from Shine with the blind spot warning, an all-round parking aid, steering wheel heating and bi-LED headlights. The price list opens at 29,490 euros. (panty)
