Vienna – The design language alone makes the Eclips Cross one of the progressives among the Mitsubishi models currently on offer. It looks much more modern than the larger Outlander and the slightly smaller, technically quite old, but still popular ASX. Nevertheless, the Japanese supplier hesitated for a long time to equip the Eclipse Cross with an alternative drive – instead there were previously conventional combustion engines in the form of diesel and gasoline units.

With the now promised facelift, the Eclipse Cross will be enriched by a technological facet. Because the group has announced that it will also offer the crossover with a plug-in hybrid drive from spring 2021. Officially, Mitsubishi didn’t want to announce much about the technology offensive, but it can be assumed that the Eclipse Cross will use the larger Outlander PHEV. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder petrol engine and two electric motors operate here to achieve a system output of 224 hp; the purely electric range is specified at around 45 kilometers. No corresponding data is yet available for the Eclipse Cross. The only exception relates to the standard consumption of 1.8 liters (CO2 emissions: 41 grams per kilometer).

Mitsubishi is a little more communicative with regard to the general facelift of the model, which has been available since 2017 and has been sold almost 70,000 times in Europe. The radiator grille is based on the appearance of the successful L200 pick-up, the headlights and the front apron have been redesigned. In the interior, Mitsubishi wants to score with new surface materials, chrome-colored elements and a new dashboard.
