Variety is the flavor of life, especially for young people

What a title for an article about young people and for young people. But think about it; As young people, you live your lives, so why not do a lot of planning to make sure you have a great variety of experiences and qualifications?

It is true that some young people have more advantages than other young people. That’s how it is in life. You can’t change this or that, so if you’re smart, you soon learn to live with it.

You often have friends whose family is more financially well off than your family. Many of your friends are more handsome than you. Maybe your friends seem to have more friends than you. You probably can’t change this or that, so if you’re smart, you soon learn to live with it.

Each young person has the opportunity to plan their daily life so that they can have more enjoyable and rewarding experiences and qualifications.

However, this requires time, work and sacrifices. We are what we eat. What we see is what we reap. The material part of what we give is gone, but the rewards of action last so long. Sharing is showing interest. Selfishness is defeat because it is presumption. Selfishness is the opposite of selflessness.

You need to plan for the future. The earlier you start planning, the more time you have to build. It takes time to organize and plan the most sensible course of action.

Few, if any, of us will start planning our lives as soon as we should. Few people are born with the ability to start planning anything as a child. The important thing is to start at the moment you realize that you can win with a plan.

I think I remember my first plan. I wanted a dog. My parents pointed out to me the responsibilities of caring for any pet. After accepting their expectations, they gave me a puppy. My dad explained to me that dogs need to go potty and that my job was to clean the entire potty no matter where it was.

I quickly learned that it was easier to pick up the potty on the patio than on the floor of the screened in porch. I had to plan to train the dog. That required making sure to let him out early each morning. I had to plan to set the alarm clock early every morning.

Wise parents begin to teach babies the difference between right and wrong. We probably learned a lot in Sunday school about God our Creator and about all life around us. At school we were quickly exposed to the need to brush our teeth daily and often bathe and wash our hair. They taught us the importance of proper eating habits. Wise parents ensure daily bowel movement. All this was to expose us to the need to have plans to take care of our health.

The safety and proper care of our health is the very basis for planning pleasant and rewarding experiences in our lives. Accidents can leave us permanently disqualified from many, most, or all normal daily enjoyments.

The first plan we should have is to train ourselves to wash our hands frequently. The more times, the better. This is especially important before preparing food, before eating, after traveling on public transport, and after going to the bathroom.

Wise parents encourage children to develop a plan to exercise every day, eat vegetables, take vitamins every day, get regular checkups and vaccinations.

Poor eating habits can lead to illness and other health problems, such as tooth decay, obesity, vision problems, depression, and self-esteem.

The sooner you have a plan and practice healthy habits, the more likely you are to continue these wise habits throughout your life. An early plan can prevent the need to kick a bad habit later in life.

One day, while walking from school to the city bus stop, I noticed a book in the bookstore window. The title, “Young Man About Town” intrigued me. The manager let me flip through the book for a few minutes. The pictures alone encouraged me to buy the book, which turned out to be the best advice book I’ve ever owned. He encouraged me to start planning for the future right away.

I learned how to wisely make a plan to buy clothes, have the confidence to ask a girl out on a date, deal with bullies, save money, develop better study clothes, take an adventure vacation trip; but mainly I began to realize the importance of just thinking and planning my future.

I had a high school sweetheart. She was the daughter of my mother’s best friend. We went out and kissed and naturally I wanted her to be interested in sex but we were both afraid of our mothers so we just kissed.

A girl in my glass was much more mature than me and for some reason she pursued me until we agreed to go out. At the movies we kissed until her mouth hurt, but I was too scared to drive with her to the woods near the airport later.

Weeks later we finally made it to the woods near the airport and she was definitely interested in sex. I was too, but I was too stupid to carry condoms. Fortunately, I was smart (or scared) enough to withdraw from unprotected sex. However, I was too stupid to encourage mutual masturbation, which could easily have satisfied us both as much as intercourse. She refused to go out with me again. Lesson learned: Always have a plan… carry condoms. Lesson learned: Always have a plan…encourage mutual masturbation.

Every young man should have a firm and well thought out plan for dealing with sexual problems. Probably the most serious and dangerous area of any young person’s life has to do with sex. However, statistics show that too many young people, perhaps the majority, do not have a plan to deal with their sex life.

Never before had sex been so dangerous. Each year, one million teens in the United States have an unwanted pregnancy. This likely not only ruined the lives of many of these girls, but more seriously put them at risk of possible exposure to HIV/AIDS.

Unprotected sex can kill. Birth control can prevent pregnancy, but it in no way protects a person from disease. STIs, STDs, HIV and AIDS are serious.

In high school, most of us realize the importance of a college education, but in high school we didn’t understand the need for a plan to get good grades in high school.

In high school many young people, especially boys, realized the importance of having a car, but they did not take auto mechanics; which could make owning a car less expensive. Suddenly they realize that Dad was right when he said, “He Plan now and start saving for your car.”

I feel like you can see the image and the point I want to get across. Early planning can help everyone reach their goals and enjoy life a little more. I often tell young people: “Variety is the spice of life.”
