Whale stranded on Indonesian beach barely rescued by locals

A group of residents of the isolated island of Raijua, Indonesia, tried everything to save a whale, a “pilot whale”, which washed up on the beach. Their perseverance will pay off as they will succeed in saving the mammal, which was suffering from deep cuts, which will then go offshore once returned to the water.

But not enough to have a smile so far. Ten other whales were found dead on the same beach on Thursday. Authorities believe they were injured when they touched rocks near the beach.

Strong currents flow through the nearby beaches, which can pose a danger to whales. Those of this type particularly appreciate traveling in groups. The fact that they regularly run aground in numbers remains difficult to understand by scientists.
