It is prepared in a pressure cooker. But in case the pressure cooker is not available, you can also make it in an instant cooker. This lunch recipe is sure to be a treat for you and your family for lunch.

Ingredients:

1 cup of rice

1/2 cup chana dal (Bengal gram divided)

2 medium onions finely chopped

2 green chilies finely chopped

Salt to taste

1 teaspoon red chili powder

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

2 tablespoons cooking oil

Method:

To make Chana Dal Pulao, first wash and soak the rice in enough water.

Similarly, clean, wash and soak the flare gram in water for at least 1 hour.

Then heat the oil in a pressure cooker over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and skip for a few seconds. Add the chopped onion, green chilies and sauté until the onion is golden brown.

Add salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and sauté again for a few seconds.

Now drain the soaked gram of Bengal and add it to the pressure cooker along with 1 cup of water.

Pressure cook the dal for two whistles over medium heat. Put out the fire. Let the steam come out naturally from the pressure cooker.

Open the lid, add the soaked rice without water, and stir to combine.

Now add enough water in the pressure cooker to cook the rice.

Reduce the heat to low and allow the rice to simmer.

Turn off the heat and cover the pressure cooker. Let the pulao rest in this mode for 5 to 10 minutes.

Open the lid of the pressure cooker and fluff the rice with a fork or spoon.

Serve Chana Dal Khichdi along with raita, green chutney, papad and salad.
