Not everyone knows the sport known as “The Gentleman’s Game”. However, in the UK it is the popular sport apart from football as it dates back to the times when kings and princes could be found playing along with their knights and soldiers. And that’s what makes this game last even to this day. In fact, one of the most anticipated tournaments in the world of cricket is underway: the Ashes Test tournament.

But before we go any further, here is a list of the top ten types of cricket that you should know about if you love the sport;

twenty20– It was first introduced and played in 2003 in the UK, however its popularity spread to all other cricket playing nations. Each team has a quota of 20 overs and whoever completes it first goes.

First class– is the oldest type of cricket played long before Test matches were played. There are many similarities between the two types, however, this type lasts for three days while the other can last up to five days.

Proof– among other types, this is the most challenging and is known to be the ultimate test of all cricketers. It is the most precise criterion if the effort and capabilities of a team are to be measured.

Club– often the most recognizable fan match in the cricket world. Although amateurish in nature, this is when aspiring cricketers learn to observe the laws of the game. It is often played too seriously by the two competing teams.

One day– As the name implies, this tournament must have a winner in one day. It is usually played with colored uniforms and white balls; more often than not, it is the best alternative to 5-day matches and can attract large numbers of spectators, especially international matches.

county– if you live in the UK you should be familiar with this type as it is often played in the counties. More often, it is a competition between two counties to show who has more superior limbs. Also, it is more popular in England.

List A– is a new type introduced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2006. Those who created this type have applied to the ICC to recognize it as a new part of the cricket world.

Short form– for people who don’t have much time to watch the game for eight hours, Short Form of Cricket is the best alternative. Basically all elements of the game are compressed into this type, however a match ends after about two hours.

Kwik– for parents who want their children to become the most popular cricketers in the world, this type is the best starting point. It is specifically designed for children who love sports. Instead of the official bats and balls, children are given plastic bats and balls to prevent injuries.

Inside– as the name suggests, this type is usually played in smaller stadia, which means that it is also faster than the traditional match of cricket. Rarely can you witness this type of cricket.
