The Easter Festival is canceled for the second time

In 2021 the Easter Festival will take place in Salzburg, but not at Easter, but on All Saints’ Day. “We don’t want to cancel, we are postponing,” says artistic director Nikolaus Bachler.

The Salzburg Easter Festival will take place this year, albeit not at Easter, but on All Saints’ Day. This was announced by director Nikolaus Bachler on Monday. The Staatskapelle Dresden will presumably give a reduced program with four orchestral concerts with the conductor Christian Thielemann – similar to what would have been planned for this year’s Easter weekend. What exactly will be played, which artists and soloists will be invited, has not yet been determined.

The fact that the All Saints’ Day Easter Festival is possible is a double stroke of luck: the Staatskapelle Dresden is free this weekend and the Great Festival Hall in Salzburg is available, said Nikolaus Bachler in an interview with the SN. He immediately agreed with Christian Thielemann: “No, we don’t want to cancel, but we are postponing.” Because: in times like these, you need a good view.
