Barbados for Kids Part 1

When you take the kids with you on vacation to Barbados, it’s important to find exciting things for them to do. Of course there is the beach, where you can spend hours playing in the sand or surfing the waves, but there will be days when you want to do something different, or just want to rest from the sun.

Sail on a catamaran and swim with the turtles

There are several catamaran trips available, but we like Cool Runnings. They offer a lunch cruise from 9:30am to 2:30pm. Price includes villa pickup, drinks, lunch, and two snorkel stops, one of which allows you to feed and swim with the turtles.

Highlands Adventure Center

Excursions by bicycle and horseback, as well as shorter walks for children. Plus, paddock rides on retired thoroughbred horses, a playground, and a zoo with monkeys, sheep, mongoose, peacocks, and rabbits. Excellent location for parties and children’s events.

Atlantis Submarine

Your quest begins as you board the “Ocean Quest” shuttle as you sit back and enjoy the seven-minute scenic cruise to the Atlantis Submarine while the Atlantis crew gives an informative briefing.

Once you arrive at the dive site, you will be able to see the surface of the submarine. Then you’ll make the easy transfer from Ocean Quest to Atlantis.

First, the submarine will dive to 55 feet to view the beautiful coral reef and abundance of marine life, including spectacular corals, sponges, and colorful fish through large, clear windows. The 45-minute submarine journey is narrated by an expert co-pilot who will point out and explain the incredible marine life and tell the story of Atlantis and the submarine itself. The sub then descends to depths of 115 to 150 feet to view a sunken wreck.

After returning to the surface, you will be transferred back aboard the Ocean Quest to return to Shallow Draft.

As a special bonus, your adult ticket aboard the Atlantis Submarine includes a free lunch or T-shirt. All guests receive a complimentary drink as well as free transportation to and from their hotel.

Children must be 3 feet tall and the tour lasts about 2 1/2 hours, operates daily with morning and afternoon dive times.

These are just a few suggestions for having fun with your children in Barbados. Enjoy the sun and surf, and revel in the many attractions on the island.
