Classical, jazz … Pat Metheny’s ode to the guitar: full listening

Pat Metheny is guitar and music in all their dimensions. And continual renewal. He surprises us once again with this album where he is more of a composer than a performer. This album is an ode to the guitar in two suites and a bonus. A suite, Four paths of light, in four parts, played by Jason Vieaux; a suite, in six movements, Road to the sun, entrusted to the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet; and a piece by Arvo Pärt, “Für Alina”, which Pat plays on his 42-string Manzer Pikasso guitar. It’s classical music, it’s jazz, Pat Metheny abolishes genres to reinvent his personal language, which would please, I believe, his aficionados as well as fans of Narciso Yepes, Andres Segovia or Julian Bream. It is because he has the gift, Pat Metheny, of making us dream through his rich melodies, his magnificent arrangements and his immediately recognizable sound.
