Großbauer: We stand up for art and culture

ÖVP culture spokeswoman: “The cultural sector needs a plan for the time after the crisis”

Vienna (OTS) The Austrian art and cultural landscape as well as sport were hit by the COVID crisis from the beginning and for a long time. Numerous art, cultural and sporting events have been canceled, a number of art and cultural institutions have been closed, which has an impact on those affected and many other industries. It cannot be ruled out that this development will continue. That is why the culture spokespersons for the ÖVP and the Greens, Maria Großbauer and Eva Blimlinger, made important proposals today, Wednesday, at the meeting of the culture committee. “We stand up for art and culture. Because the cultural sector needs prospects for the future,” emphasizes Maria Großbauer.

– The scope of the “Federal Act to Safeguard Art, Culture and Sports Life from Further Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic” is being expanded. This gives organizers and operators in the cultural sector and in sport the opportunity to issue vouchers instead of the obligation to repay – this voucher solution will be extended.

– In a further motion, the culture spokespersons of the governing parties speak out in favor of a longer-term action plan for a strong domestic art and culture sector that looks at the time after the crisis.

Both motions received a majority in the committee. In addition, a motion was also resolved at the meeting, which provides for the establishment of a trust agency against abuse of power in the arts, culture and sport. In this institution, abuse of power that goes beyond sexual violence should generally serve as a point of contact. The trust center should act as the first point of contact for those affected and at the same time use the existing offers, explains Großbauer in conclusion. (Enough)
