How to lose 20 pounds by changing simple daily habits

IT’S OKAY. I am going to lose 20 pounds. Really. Sure, trying to lose 20 pounds in 30 days might be possible, but that’s a terrible goal. It’s much better to adopt a daily habit that gets you there, and then focus on maintaining that habit for 30 days. Then your new habit will carry you towards the goal on its own. After 30 days, your new habit will be so ingrained that keeping up will be easy, or at least easier!

That basic idea that will help you achieve any goal: “Achieve great things by doing small things.”

Now this is a bit unfair. In fact, I started a diet about 2 months ago and have already lost 10 pounds. But my goal has been 20 from the start and now I feel stuck. What I did to get me here won’t work for the rest of the way.

I started by adopting The South Beach Diet 2 Week Starter Diet. If you’re not familiar with that, it essentially means removing as many carbohydrates from your diet as possible. No bread, no pasta, no rice, no potatoes. And almost all types of snack bars have flour in them, so those are gone, too. But you can eat eggs, lean meats, and as many vegetables as you want.

I’m simplifying it a bit, but that’s basically it. You should get the book or search the net for more information if you are interested. I know the diet works because I know people who have used it in the past and it has worked for them.

So I went on that strict diet and lost about 10 pounds in a few weeks. But then I reached a point and stopped. After a while, I wasn’t as strict about my diet anymore and I’ve been stable ever since. At least I haven’t uploaded, yet.

So now I need to adopt a habit for 30 days that will get me there. And here it is: “For 30 days, I will not eat rice, bread or pasta. I will also not eat after 8 pm before going to bed. And I will drink at least one glass of water a day.” If I can do this, then I know I can do it. This basic set of everyday clothes should get me where I want to go.
