Is there anything more American than protecting these 5 things?

What does America stand for, and does it stand for, if we don’t protect the freedoms, rights, and freedoms that have always set us apart from much of the rest of the world’s nations? A famous poem was written, based on the world’s inaction, when certain ethnic groups were attacked by the Nazis during World War II, whose moral was, if we don’t stand up. , for others, and protect their rights, etc., there will be no one left, when we need help! Many believe that the United States is currently witnessing a troubling period of time where haters appear to be enabled/empowered by President Trump’s rhetoric/vitriole and hate crimes have increased significantly. Even though the right to assemble, with peaceful protest, is supposed to be guaranteed by our Constitution, this President has equated these peaceful protesters with right-wing, extremist, and hate groups! Who can forget when he said, after the atrocities in Charlottesville, Virginia, when an individual deliberately charged into a crowd of peaceful protesters, killing one, and Trump referred to this as, good people on both sides? If we hope to preserve the soul of this nation, we must protect these 5 things.

1. Freedom of expression/ Right of assembly: Although I may disagree with your perspective and views, I continue to believe in your right to exercise your freedom of expression, as long as you do so responsibly and safely! We can’t selectively determine when we allow this and when we don’t! The right to protest, often referred to as the right to assemble, is essential if we are to protect our commitment to freedom!

two. Free Press: Our nation has always felt that the Free Press is necessary to be our watchdog and bring the news to the American public! It should be concerning to all of us, regardless of our personal political preferences, when President Trump constantly attacks any dissenting reports, calling them, the fake press and fake news, as well as the enemy of the people!

3. Human Rights/ Civil/ Justice: Shouldn’t everyone, regardless of ethnicity, etc., and/or economic/financial capabilities, be entitled to equal protection of the law and fair and equal justice? However, we have witnessed, on numerous occasions, when there was evidence of systemic racism, in our criminal justice system, as well as in police treatment, civil rights, and human rights. Don’t we deserve a better and fairer system?

Four. Protection of public health: If you don’t, now, this administration’s constant equating of protecting public health with commercial and financial considerations! Although we all feel – the – pain, and worry, while economic/financial concerns, etc., are serious concerns, we can always make money again, but the more than 200,000 Americans who have lost their lives, will never return! The longer-term ramifications of some of the cases of this horrible virus are unknown, but for some, they appear to be very, long-lasting!

5. Access to affordable health care: Without protection and coverage, millions of Americans will suffer from pre-existing conditions! Shouldn’t quality, affordable health care be a right, rather than a mere possibility and/or a reality for some? Before the Affordable Care Act, insurers often refused to cover anything related to these conditions. Shouldn’t we be concerned that we are almost the only nation without universal coverage of some sort?

What is America, if we don’t seek genuine greatness, rather than a politician’s catchphrase, to make America great again? Wake up, America, and demand, preserving and protecting, all our freedoms, freedoms and justice, and other Constitutional guarantees!
