Merry Makeup – How to look spectacular this holiday season

The busy holiday season is full of parties and gatherings where you want to look your best. While your daily makeup routine may take you from home to the office or school and back, you’ll want a little more excitement for your evening events. Make sure your makeup reflects the season with these great tips.

  • GoShimmery: Nothing says the holidays like a little sparkle. Complete your winter look by applying a minimal amount of shimmer powder or adding a little shimmer to your lips or eyelids. Adding a bit of glitter will make your face look brighter and add a sparkle that fits the holiday season.
  • Be bold: The holiday season is a great time to be bold when it comes to your makeup. Cat eyes or dark smokey eyes often add an eerie glamor that pairs well with the season’s rich colors. Likewise, deep, deep red lipsticks and lip glosses are a great way to bring holiday cheer to your smile (and make your teeth look whiter).
  • Keep it balanced: Dark eyes and beautiful deep red lips are great, but there needs to be a balance. As a general rule, never go with dark lips and eyes. Pairing the two will only leave you looking like you’re still wearing your Halloween costume. Counter dark makeup with bright nude lips and dark lips with a simple eyeshadow close to your natural skin tone.
  • Prepare your face: Holiday parties can often happen right after work and last for quite a while, make sure your makeup stays in place by applying a primer to your face. Ultimately, a primer will make your skin look smoother by helping to mask flaws and allowing your makeup to go on easier and stay on longer.
  • Tinted Moisturizer: While your summer glow may be fading at this point, you don’t need to hit the tanning bed to keep that healthy tone in your skin. Ultimately, tanning is not a safe way to keep your skin glowing and sunless tanners can often leave you looking orange and streaky. Keep your skin looking radiant with tinted moisturizers. While you may not achieve that straight-from-the-beach glow, your skin will look dewy and fresh with a lash of color.
  • Silver and gold: When choosing sparkly makeup, nail polish, and eyeliners, consider looking for silver and gold tones. Silver and gold are always popular during the holiday season and can give your look that extra festive look.
  • Manicure your nails: Even if you’re not one to pamper yourself, a vacation manicure is a must. Grooming your nails and preparing them for the parties and gatherings that are so prevalent during the holidays can take a lot of effort. While self-manicured nails are likely to chip and you’ll be forced to take care of them several times in a week, a manicure should take a few weeks and take you until the New Year.
