My grandfather went fishing

I love my grandfather, I really love him. I used to spend a lot of time with him when I was young, he always supported me and tried to have fun all the time. He took me to see football matches, theaters, cinemas and of course Fishing…

If you think that I will continue describing the good times I had with him, or all the places and activities that we shared together, you are in the wrong article. Maybe some other day it will occur to me to talk about this, because I really appreciate it a lot. But I’m sorry grandpa, I need to tell the world how much fun it is to be with you on a fishing trip or even listen to you tell endless fishing stories.

I only need to add that my grandfather has his fellow fishermen, he knew them from different places and on different occasions, but this friendship always occurs on the seashore or near a freshwater lake, while he was fishing (at least that is what you want to do… fish)

In grandpa’s theory about fishing.. “You always need to explore new places, the further and more difficult to reach the place, the better the chance to catch more and bigger fish”… says my grandpa with a special wink when he gets to the phrase “biggest fish”, at least that was his theory. The reason is… “In far away places, especially in isolated places, the fish will be hungry for fresh bait…” adds my grandfather very informatively.

Following his first theory, Grandpa wakes up very early in the morning and decides to explore a new place and catch the biggest fish that ever lived. He knew the route to a farm near a freshwater lake and thought it would be one of his best finds. He called his fisherman partner the day before and agreed with him to go very early in the morning to this fantastic farm location. “Don’t tell anyone about this farm until we try it first…” my grandfather said to his fellow fisherman. This is my grandfather’s second theory, in order to gain all the glory when he actually finds fish in that new place, he can spread the word to the rest of the fishermen.

The new location was far enough away that Grandpa and his partner needed a lot of transportation to get to it. In one of these media he met a peasant woman who was carrying a goose with her! If a goose, well, the woman had a problem that she forgot the money and she didn’t know how to pay for the trip, but my grandfather was so kind that he offered to pay the woman and that was it. The woman refused! Yes, her dignity prevented her from accepting her grandfather’s offer. Grandpa’s partner whispered to my grandfather not to get involved more than that, but Grandpa insisted. The woman told the grandfather that she was going to the local market to sell the ‘goose’, so if he wanted to help her, she could buy the goose from him, that was the only way she would accept her help.

Very surprised classmate to grandfather: “What are we going to do with a live goose on a fishing trip?!”

Grandpa: “I have no idea, but I can’t leave this woman in trouble…”

Partner still not believing: “And where will you put it and how will you carry it?”

The grandfather after thinking for a while: “No problem, I can take the goose inside the bag and let its neck come out of the zipper…” then he continued seriously: “Then we can let the goose swim in the water when we get to the lake.” .. ”he added, happy with the solution he found:“ The goose will have no problem spending the day swimming in the fresh water. ”

Partner knowing that as always he will not be able to convince his grandfather: “Ok, whatever satisfies you.”

The deal was made, the woman was happy, the grandfather was satisfied with this result, and the partner was still surprised, having a feeling that it is not the end and the day has just begun!

Finally they reached the lake, the grandfather left the goose in the lake, making sure that it did not swim away and they began to prepare their fishing tools to start the new discovery. After a while in the sun, without catching a single fish… As always… it was time for the farm geese to go swimming in the lake. Grandfather decided that they needed to change the place, maybe they can find fish in another place on the lake, and grandfather put the goose back in his bag and began to move.

But… to his surprise, problems begin to arise. An old man from the farm saw the goose in his grandfather’s bag, and surely he thought that his grandfather was stealing it…!!!

Old man: “Hey, what are you doing with this goose?”

Grandpa: “It’s my goose, I bought it this morning…!”

Old man not believing: “You bought it from where?”. Then he continued angrily “I know the geese on the farm, this is our…”

The grandfather tried to explain the situation to the Old Man, without proving anything he was saying and the Old Man was not buying the story. The situation was getting complicated. The grandfather found no solution to this situation other than to leave his goose to the Old Man.

Grandpa: “Ok, take the goose; I won’t have to argue with you more than this…”

The Old Man: “This is better for everyone, we have more than 10 geese and this is one of them.” The man took the goose and walked away from the grandfather but suddenly he heard the voice of a young woman shouting from a distance to the Old Man: “Dad, we found our goose, this goose is not ours…!”

And it turned out that this Old Man has only one goose! That was missing, this urged the grandfather to blame the Old Man for lying to him and wasting his time and delaying him from his “Great Fishing Time!!!”

But where is grandpa’s partner during this fight?! Grandpa starts looking for his partner, only to find out that he crossed a small bridge and went to the other side of the lake waiting for the fight to end!

Grandpa: “That was a great support…”

The fellow couldn’t stop laughing and replied, “I told you from the beginning that we don’t need a goose on a fishing trip.”

Grandpa: “You could have at least been stranded with me…”

Partner: “I’m old enough for these fights…” and then added as his laughter grew louder: “and we haven’t completed our discovery yet”…

Grandpa bursting out laughing: “No luck today, although I’m sure this lake has tons of fish…!”

Partner: “Yeah, and tons of geese…let’s go home before someone else finds out your goose is missing.”

Grandpa: “fine, but we’ll have our exploration another day.”

And that was the end of one of the endless fishing trips of my grandfather and his companions.
