Porn virus on MSN Messenger

MSN Messenger, now called Live Messenger, is a popular platform for virus writers. They use very innovative and seemingly genuine ways to infect innocent users and steal their data privacy. Recently, a new variation of the chat virus was noticed in the MSN messenger that sent pornographic messages to contacts in a user’s infected messenger.

What this virus essentially does is send something like “HOT! HOT! HOT!” Followed by some virus domain with a porn keyword like “isexsexsex” or “hotpictures” or similar. By clicking on this link, you infect the computer and start sending the message to those in your contact list.

The problem with the MSN virus is that they are not easily detectable with common antivirus software. So it doesn’t really protect you from the messenger virus. However, once you notice that you are infected, it is possible to remove the virus with tools such as Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and spybot.

Use the above-mentioned tool and run them in safe mode on your computer to remove those pesky viruses and then reboot in normal mode. Once the viruses are removed, you can use an online virus detection service from ASquared, HouseCall, or ESET to check for and remove possible viruses from your messenger.

To stay safe from future attacks, please be aware of these automated chat messages from your contacts and think twice before clicking on any links. In addition, having an antivirus such as Kaspersky, Avira or others will be useful to prevent attacks from the browser and email attachments. I hope these tips are helpful to you as they were to me when I started. Happy chatting with MSN!
