Resume writing guides are the best tool you can use to get a job now

I thought my resume was awesome until I read a guide to writing a resume. I knew at that point that my resume was missing many components that employers were looking for. So much so that I decided to update my resume. The resume writing guide taught me that the stone age format I was using did not reflect my assets. Resumes that only list a goal, education, and experience are outdated.

In recent years the business world has changed. This change has meant that businesses are more streamlined than ever. Companies want employees who bring the most benefits to the company. A standard format resume does not show all of your strengths. When I read a resume writing guide, I learned how to add strengths to my resume. You see, you can’t just say I’m an excellent listener. Strengths need to be added in the proper context. On my resume it meant how I created a project, worked overtime and saved my employer thousands. Sounds awesome? It looks great on my resume.

The guide to writing a resume also gave me some tips on how to change the design style of my resume. I’ve created a larger margin on the left side of my resume so I can include non-standard information. In my case I put some graphics and quotes. Yes, I dressed up my resume with colorful images. I even used quotes that illustrated the type of person he was. Where did I get the information? From the Internet and other employers. It was easy for me to redesign my resume once I realized how these features enhanced my resume.

Since the resume is all about me, I also learned to use terms that describe me. I mean terms that show what kind of worker I am. In my case I like to finish jobs and many times this means working overtime. I also enjoy working with people in a learning environment. Teaching gives me a different high than anything I’ve ever done. The Resume Writing Guide helped me express all of this in my resume.

I never realized how much a resume could say until recently. Resumes should be about more than where you’ve been. They need to show employers your achievements and personality in a creative way that is interesting.
