Salt Lake City Hotels – What to see while in town

More and more people are coming to ski in Salt Lake City, mainly after 2002, when the city hosted the Winter Olympics. However, if you stay at one of the many SLC hotels, there is much more to see in the city.

A city tour best begins at the Visitor Center. Here you will get the latest information on events, accommodation, etc. The Visitor Center is located in the Salt Palace. This is also the cultural center of the city. One block north you can operate at the Family History Library on one of the largest genealogy databases.

To the east is Temple Square, the religious center of the Mormons. The so-called Information Brothers and Sisters bring tourists through the system for free. It is especially interesting the Tabernacle, with its famous Tabernacle Choir. The building is built entirely of wood, even if steel fasteners have been dispensed with. During a demonstration you can admire the excellent acoustics of the room. The actual building on Temple Square, the Temple, with its dominating towers, is not accessible to visitors. Even for devout Mormons, some parts of the building remain closed. The visitor stands inside Temple Square or Assembly Hall and the open centers for Visitors from the North and South.

One block to the east is the tallest building in the city, the Church Office Building. From the observation deck on level 26 you have an excellent view of all of SLC. Particularly impressive is the Utah State Capitol facing the mountains north of the city. The ZCMI (Zion Mercantile Cooperative Institution) is one of the largest urban malls in the entire country and here you can find countless stores for an amazing shopping experience.

In the vicinity of SLC, the Great Salt Lake beckons you to visit. The Great Salt Lake is the largest lake west of the Mississippi. It has, however, only an average depth of just over 4 meters. Southwest of the city is the Kennecott Copper Mine, where copper is mined in the open pit. The mine is one of the largest and most productive in the entire country. The Visitor Center provides information in exhibits on history and geology.

For skiers, the mountains east of SLC have prepared something very special. Due to the low humidity on the edge of the desert, the snow is very dry. Ski resorts in the Wasatch Mountains are famous for their powder.

There are numerous SLC hotels to choose from when you decide you can enjoy a Utah vacation. From luxury like Marriott or Hilton to cozy bed and breakfast accommodations, you can choose what best suits your preferences and budget.
