San Francisco 49ers – Will they do it again in 2009?

The San Francisco 49ers are one of those teams that people are familiar with, even if you’re not a sports fan. This team is passionate about the game and has won many championship titles and broken several records to prove it. After the 2008 season, the team underwent some personnel and player changes, which fans and management are looking forward to in the new season: 2009. These changes, along with the dedication of the teams and the loyalty of the fans, they should give sports fans a good show this year.

49er fans eagerly await the announcement of the final changes, along with the draft picks, as these changes just mean their team is in for an amazing year. Season tickets are already in high demand, even before fans know who will play for them. There is no doubt that the 2009 season will be packed and procrastinators will be left on the streets during home games.

The West Coast, shortly after World War II, was in dire need of entertainment in the form of sports. At this time, sports teams were primarily located in the East and Midwest, leaving the West Coast barren. Anthony Morabito was in charge of opening the eyes showing that the west coast needed a soccer franchise.

Morabito applied for an NFL franchise for the city of San Francisco, to put the West Coast on the sports maps. However, the NFL quickly turned it down, as they did not feel this was a profitable move for their league. Anthony was aware of the news about the AFL and quickly aligned himself with this company.

Morabito, along with his partners, worked hard to devise an identity for this new team that would be remembered and enduring. That’s when they came up with the name: the San Francisco 49ers. The name was derived as a reminder for miners of the gold rush years. Surprisingly, a painting, on a railway carriage, inspired men to think of this name (the painting was of a miner).

It wasn’t until the merger of the AFL and the NFL that the 49ers became an NFL franchise. That’s when the team got noticed and ticket sales started to skyrocket. After many years of struggle and hard work, Morabito finally had the NFL franchise of his dreams.

In recent years, the team has faced some tribulations. Early in the 2007 season, their starting quarterback, Alex Smith, suffered a serious shoulder injury that sidelined him for a year and a half. Unfortunately, this set the team back. He has; however, he recently signed a new 2-year deal with the 49ers and will be back on the field for the 2009 season. He and the team are ready to show the world what they’re made of, once again.

For more than 60 years, the 49ers have been running, passing and tackling like never before; their passion and dedication have remained strong. They are proud winners of five Super Bowl rings and multiple division and conference titles. 49er fans are some of the most dedicated fans in the entire league, and ticket sales prove it. The 2009 season, like many others, will be sold out in no time.
