SWTOR Class Guide – Trooper Versus Smuggler

Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) offers players two main alliances which are the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic. The Galactic Republic is protected by the Jedi Order and the armies of the Republic. Interestingly, the smugglers, who are not as fair as the Jedi, actually work alongside the Republic army, the soldiers, to protect the people. Although at first glance it may seem unlikely that these two classes with very different virtues can work together, in reality it is the opposite. The fact is, for longtime Star Wars fans, the alliance between these two classes comes as no surprise given the intricate history that sparked goodwill between them.

As shown in the big screen movie, Han Solo, a smuggler with his friend Chewy, quickly builds a solid relationship with Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia through a series of near-impossible shootings and escapes. Therefore, there is no doubt that the smuggler’s loyalty is to the Galactic Republic. With the main force of the Republic made up of soldiers, the smugglers go into battle side by side.

Both SWTOR classes are more comfortable with blasters. Smugglers prefer smaller blasters and rely on their fast hands to survive firefights, while soldiers use the firepower of their oversized blasters to deal damage. SWTOR soldiers are clad in strong armor and helmets specifically designed to withstand attack. Some of the best defense technologies were put into the structure of the soldier’s armor. The same goes for blasters that are developed from advanced weaponry research.

On the other hand, SWTOR smugglers are dressed in light clothing. This is not because they cannot afford battle armor. The class has been known to take advantage of it quickly when it comes to money matters and is never without a penny. The smuggler class simply prefers light clothing for reasons of stealth and agile on their feet. It’s not uncommon for enemies to trade open fire with soldiers and the next minute a smuggler takes them down from behind.

Both classes have ships of their own. The ships are also tailored to the needs of soldiers and smugglers. The soldier’s ship, the BT-7 Thunderclap, is designed for rapid deployment to support rapid response during battle. The smuggler’s ship, the XS Freighter, is a fast ship and probably one of the most versatile starships in the galaxy. In parallel, these two classes are a powerful force of destruction.
