The history of Gerber knives

Gerber Legendary Knives was founded in 1939 by Pete Gerber. Gerber Legendary Knives started in Portland, Oregon, but later moved its headquarters to Tigard, Oregon. Gerber was the first knife manufacturer to collaborate with a custom knife maker. The custom knife maker was David Murphy.

A little history of the Gerber family. They had their own advertising company in Portland, Oregon in 1910 and began shipping kitchen knives to customers during the holidays. These knives became very popular and then the famous Abercrombie and Fitch started selling them in their catalog in 1939. They then split later that year and the rest is knife history.

By 2003, they began generating $100 million in revenue and became the second-largest multi-tool seller in the United States.

Gerber has built a strong reputation in knife and multi-tool manufacturing over the years and in 1985 Pete Gerber was inducted into the Cutlery Hall of Fame at the 1985 Blade Show in Atlanta, Georgia.

They are also famous for their innovative designs and the materials they use to make their multi-tools and knives. This is a solid company that will be around for a long time.

Hunters, fishermen and outdoorsmen put a lot of demands on their knives and multi-tools when they go outdoors. Having a good knife or multi-tool can mean the difference between having a fun and successful hunting or fishing trip and having a horrible trip. I know there were times when I was young and couldn’t afford a good quality knife to fish and hunt with me. Let’s just say it ended up being a serious headache trying to disembowel a fish or the animal you had killed.
