The Olympic Games will take place without foreign spectators

The move is part of efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, officials in charge of the matter told Japan’s Kyodo news agency on Tuesday. The Japanese organizing committee for the Tokyo Games is expected to hold a virtual meeting with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during the month of March, in order to formalize the decision on the absence of the public coming from abroad.

The Games postponed for a year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, are to be held from July 23 to August 8.
