The practice of psychometry

As a sensitive empath, one of my skills has been Object Psychometry. Like all psychic gifts, this one allows the reader to gain special impressions regarding emotions and thoughts. Emotions, being the stronger of the two intellectual processes, tend to come through a little more clearly, but can seem somewhat confused and disjointed. Thoughts, on the other hand, can be weaker but clearer; however, they can be a bit more difficult to grasp unless the person in question has a high degree of focused intentions.

Mental Filters On one occasion a friend of a friend asked me to tell him about the person who gave him a cabochon (highly polished stone). After the object was handed over to me, I closed my eyes and began to capture images of the previous owner. I began to relate that she was a rather careless person whom I took for someone who lived as a transient. Her intention in giving the cabochon was to allow a favor in return. My friend’s friend was so amazed; His eyes widened in disbelief since he hadn’t expected that level of precision.

For Psychometry to work, the receiver must learn to become a passive receiver. That is, the person doing the reading must strive to free himself from preconceived notions and/or expectations in order to receive the information accurately. Let’s say, for example, that I gave you a watch that seemed very expensive. On the surface, you might assume that the owner was someone of great means and a lot of money. Making that assumption based on superficial appearances is based on a social filter or expectation, which could very likely be a false assumption.

Best practice is not to base readings on surface appearances, but to take the object as it is, without any implied representation. Allow the object’s energy to flow without any preconceived restrictions that might prevent its actualization. Even when you are receiving the energy, try to refrain from making personal judgments about the images received. After all, no one is completely blameless, and just as we would like to be respected despite our faults, let the person being read have the same courtesy.

The Neutral Zone While sitting in a restaurant on vacation, I saw a sign across the street that said, “Psychic Readings.” Being a psychic myself, I am always curious about how other psychics go about their craft. After a brief introduction, the reader proceeded to lead me to a small, dimly lit back area with a table and two chairs in the middle, and a smaller table filled with semi-precious stones leaning against the far wall. When he started reading, he asked me if I was a businessman. My answer was no. Again, you are in a trade that requires you to travel and sell things. Once again, my answer was no.

With every answer there was another no. This continued to the point where the reader started to get angry with me. My thoughts at the time, “Hey, I’m paying for the reading. I should be the one to bother here.” When the reading was over, I informed the reader that I was a psychic and was frequently put on the spot to do psychic readings. I barely said this when he asked me to do a psychic reading. As I turned around, I picked up the two stones I was holding during the reading, closed my eyes, and proceeded to get impressions of what was going on.

The first image was of the interior of a dark house with very dense and confusing energies, the next image was a very bright house full of very positive energies. I then proceeded to tell her that the place where she currently lived was very dark and confusing, and that she planned to move to another house that would be more suitable for growth and stability. Suddenly, her eyes lit up as she said excitedly, “You should be doing this for a living.” As a gift for reading, she gave me the two stones with which I read it.

In this situation, I could have allowed the fact that I had just received a very poor reading to influence my perceptions of the situation. Instead, I eliminated any and all references to the reading and became a neutral conduit for the energy of the stones. As a result, I was able to give an accurate reading that was highly relevant to his given situation.

For this reason, it is extremely important that the reader establish a neutral reference point before doing any reading. Setting a neutral benchmark is very easy; however, it can be one of the most difficult tasks to accomplish successfully. As with meditation, the same principles apply with the exception of intention. The intention here is to find a place where you can see yourself in a passive mode of not controlling or being controlled. As you reach this state, make a note of how you feel so that you can later return to that state as needed.

Protect Yourself One New Year’s Eve, I agreed to be the entertainment at a party thrown by a couple of my friends. As an entertainer, he was supposed to do Tarot readings for whoever ever wanted one that night. Before doing a reading, I always like for the querent to hold the deck of cards while they think about their question. Apart from my friends, I had never met anyone before participating in this party. As each reading was completed, he moved on to the next with hardly a break in between.

When it came to reading one gentleman in particular, I noticed that he gripped the cover very tightly and held them for a longer period than most, which included taking them out into the yard. After he came back and handed the deck back to me, a burst of energy suddenly came over me. It was not a typical flow of energy that normally accompanies a surge of information, but rather a concentration of raw energy. If I hadn’t taken the next step of allowing the energy to flow back into the infinite universe, I probably would have been done reading for the rest of that night.

Being a sensitive empath can be both a blessing and a curse depending on how well you protect yourself in the process. Receiving energies from other people can be emotionally draining and confusing as it can be inadvertently absorbed into your own being. Some of the most common methods of protection include:

1. Imagine yourself surrounded by white light – The act of visualizing white light helps ward off any negative energy that may be present.

2. Blur – If possible, try to blur the area by burning sage, which helps remove any residual negative energy from the area.

3. Divine Intervention: Before beginning a reading, invoke the protection of your guardian spirits and angels asking them to give you understanding and insight, and also to stay by your side and protect you during the reading.

4. Semi-precious stones: Obsidian has excellent properties to absorb negative energy, while clear quartz crystal, on the other hand, emits a light energy that disperses negative energy.

5. Send energy back into the universe: If you find yourself absorbing some of the energy, visualize sending that energy out into the universe to be absorbed back into infinity.

At the very least, be prepared to politely walk away if there is any feeling of fear or apprehension regarding the reading. The worst thing a reader can do to himself is to ignore the little red flags that warn us to back off. Always remember that YOU have the ability and authority to send any unfavorable energy into the universe.

Conclusion Psychometry is a powerful tool used by a sensitive empath, who is someone who acts as an emotional antenna for other people’s energies. Most people have the ability to develop this technique; however, it requires the careful balance of becoming a neutral conduit. Finally, always remember to protect yourself through whatever means you choose to do so.
