Thirst – Sensational Poetry by Mary Oliver Reaching Deep Into the Soul

This excellent book entitled “Thirst” by Mary Oliver is very exciting to read. The poems are realistic, contemporary, and inspiring to the soul. It leaves one with a sense of feeling that brings tranquility to mind, body and spirit.

The architectural style of the poems is very pleasing to the eye and actually gives a different feeling when reading the lines. The variation of such designs makes the poems easier to read. His innovative writing style also makes the poems very interesting and inspiring.

Starting with the first poem in this excellent book, “Messenger,” with words like “a mouth to shout with joy,” sets the stage for a refreshing and encouraging read. Here he introduces us that the mouth should be used to sing, give praise, and build things, rather than belittle, tear down, or destroy things.

Another great poem is “When roses speak, I pay attention.” This is also a lovely and moving poem to read. Imagine the scent of roses on Valentine’s Day with a fragrance so aromatic that it speaks to the mind, body and soul; Who wouldn’t pay attention and listen?

His expression in “Preparing the House for the Lord” is very moving and evolutionary. She presents her questions to the Lord so eloquently, while seeking His advice. The raccoon limping into the kitchen, the fox looking boldly down the path in the freshly fallen snow, including the lost dog, with whom he talks, thus presenting such charming and fascinating images. Consider her words to each of them, when she says, “Come in, come in!” This image is similar to Like Noah and the Ark; his home was ready for the Lord.

The dynamic, inspiring and uplifting poem “The Uses of Sorrows” certainly shows the tenacity and perseverance of the soul. It represents aspects of life that we must understand and to which we must react positively by embracing and learning from its essence. It shows us that sorrows can be joy based on our perception and reference state when receiving and processing such events.

The epilogue entitled “Sed”, with the same name of the book, shows his humility. She humbly asked for more time to perform her tasks on Earth, as she is a slow learner and is very thirsty. This is a wonderful sign of humility toward your Lord as you continue your inspiration and uplifting mission to revive souls.

This book is a must read. It must be read to appreciate the other wonderful poems in its golden pages.
