Real Estate

Where is the best place to sell websites for profit?

You’ve built a great website, you’re making money, generating traffic, and now it’s time to sell the website. Buying and selling has become a very profitable online venture that is not unlike physical real estate. In the same way that you can buy a house, fix it up and increase its value, you can also buy, monetize and sell a website.

There are now websites and forums dedicated to bringing website buyers and sellers together. You can register with these websites and then put your website up for sale. I am going to go over the three websites that I used regularly to sell my websites. I have found that these websites have a lot of qualified buyers which usually results in the sale of most of the offered websites. If you have a high-quality website, you are sure to find enthusiastic buyers.

Site #1: Sitepoint.com Forums

This particular website has a “Marketplace”. Within this marketplace there are three sections where you can sell your website. The three sections are “Premium Sites for Sale”, “Established Websites for Sale” and “Turnkey Sites for Sale”. Your website will be listed in one of these three sections. The “Premium Sites for Sale” section has a $40 fee to list your website for sale. This section is aimed at sites with a lot of traffic and earning a substantial amount of money each month. Just as the name says, these are “premium” websites.

The next section “Established Sites for Sale” is for sites that have been around for a while, that are getting traffic and generating revenue. The fee for a listing in this section is $20.

The final “Sale-Ready Sites” section is for ready-to-use websites that are not currently receiving traffic or generating revenue. It is for fully developed websites that were created recently. The fee for a listing is $10.

In almost every case, you will find more qualified buyers on Sitepoint than on any other website where you can list a website for sale, so I highly recommend their service, even if you do have to submit a payment.

Site #2: Digital Point Forums

The best part about Digital Point is that all listings are free. Unlike the Sitepoint Marketplace, there is never a fee to place a listing. The downside to this is that your list is usually hidden pretty quickly if no replies are received to your thread post.

Site #3: NamePros.com

This forum also has a site for sale section. Publishing is free just like Digital Point, so you can also give this site a try, if you are not willing to pay for a publication on Sitepoint.

If you are just starting to sell your websites, I recommend you take a look at the sites I mention to make sure you get the most out of your selling price.
