Will I require a DUI attorney?

If you ponder whether or not it is smart to work with a DUI attorney, then your answer will likely be "Yes". Are you accused of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs? If so, then it is an excellent idea for you to contact a DUI attorney who is familiar with handling DUI cases. In California, as in most states within the US, the DUI charge is very serious. If you are charged and found guilty of DUI, you will face some lasting repercussions. With the serious repercussions, it is extremely crucial that you fight the charge, even if you are technically guilty.

Plead guilty, not guilty, or do not contest

If you are registered with DUI then you will be prosecuted. You will have to make a plea to the charge while you are at the arraignment. What this means is to profess innocence or guilt, or not to contest. When you beg "don’t answer", means the fact that you can understand that there is sufficient evidence for your prosecutor to convict you, yet you do not plead guilty. Once it has been processed, the lease will be awarded to you, at least in most cases. Your DUI attorney can work with the courts to prepare your bond. If you are unable to post the bond, you can seek the help of a surety, who pays the bond for you; however, you will have to pay a percentage to the guarantor. It is usually 10 to 20 percent. Once you beg "not guilty", then you will be released from custody and a court date will be scheduled where you will have to return for a pre-trial hearing. When you beg "guilty" gold "don’t answer", then come back later for sentencing.

DUI penalties

There are a selection of different penalties that can be imposed for committing the offense of DUI. To begin with, your license will be revoked for a particular period of time. You may be forced to serve a required jail sentence. Large fines will be imposed. You may need to attend drug or alcohol recovery classes. Your motor vehicle may need to be equipped with a special device that does not start the engine when you breath tests for alcohol. These are just some of the penalties you may face. The circumstances surrounding your DUI charge will have a lot to do with the stiffness of the penalties. Possibly the worst thing that will happen to you is that you end up with a criminal record that can stay with you for several years, making it difficult to rent a house, get a job, and more.

If you are facing DUI charges, don’t do it yourself. Speak with a DUI attorney as soon as possible to help you formulate your defense.
