Window alarms: it’s not just the door that burglars use

One of the scariest things that can happen to a parent is to have their child kidnapped. We seem to be seeing this happen too much these days.

Parents often leave the window open or put the bed next to the window in the child’s room. These are just a few of the ways your child can be ‘snatched’ from your home.

One of the easiest and cheapest ways to keep your children safe and secure in your bedroom is to have alarms on every window.

Window alarms are small and unobtrusive. They can be placed on the wall by the window or attached to the window with double-sided tape.

Window alarms are a form of motion detector. When someone gets close to the device, it sets off a very loud alarm that will wake up everyone in the house.

Unfortunately, your child will probably wake up scared, but at least you have your child to hold and calm you down.

When your child is old enough to understand, it’s a good idea to demonstrate an activated alarm and explain what the sound of the alarm means. If they hear the loud noise, ask them to immediately get out of bed and run to the parent’s room or the room you decide is the safe place.

Another thing: Many people think that window alarms are only necessary for the first floor. Forget about that notion because if you want to freak out, just search your computer for the number of attempted or actual kidnappings of children that were done from the second floor. Please make sure your child’s room has alarms on all windows, regardless of what floor the room is on.

Okay, one other thing to mention: These devices will help keep you safe if you put them in the windows of your hotel or motel room, especially if you’re on the first floor. Statistics show that most motel burglaries occur in first floor rooms because they are so accessible and bad guys have a very easy escape route.

If you want, you can take them apart for the maid or when you’re in the room. But, a simple window alarm can ensure that it doesn’t turn into one of those burglary stats I mentioned earlier. We all want to have safe time away from home during the holidays. A window alarm will help make this happen.

Don’t be the next victim!
