3 ways to prevent minoxidil from dripping onto your face or neck

Many complain that liquid Minoxidil runs down their face when they apply it; however, with good technique, this should not be a problem. Try these various methods and see which one works best for you.

Technique #1: Drip and Dab
When using the liquid, apply small drops of liquid to the scalp area with one hand, rubbing as you go with the other. It’s easiest to start in areas where there is still some hair, as the hair will help keep the Minoxidil from running everywhere. Make sure to cover the entire area with Minoxidil. Only after you have covered the areas closest to the hair, use the remaining liquid on the completely bald areas. Spread the Minoxidil over the scalp evenly with the hand that is not holding the applicator or the Minoxidil will drip onto your face or other areas of inconvenience. When you’re done, immediately wash your hands and gently wipe off any excess Minoxidil that may be on your forehead.

Technique #2: Run and Rub
For this technique, define the two points on your bald spot that are furthest from each other. For example, if I am medicating the crown of my head, I will start at the point closest to the top and center of my head. At this point place the Minoxidil dropper. With your index finger, make a barrier at the bottom of your balding area. Now, tilt your head forward or as needed so the Minoxidil is stationary on your head at first, and when you’re ready, tilt your head to let the Minoxidil run down the scalp over the bald or thinning area. When the liquid goes down, take it with your index finger. You only want to let a little minoxidil run off at a time, so let go of just enough so your finger can catch it without it running everywhere. Once you rub it in, you can continue to rub it into the rest of the bald area and any other part of the scalp you want to medicate.

Technique #3: The Headband
This technique is executed just as it sounds. You wear a headband or bandana while applying the Minoxidil to create a barrier that the Minoxidil cannot pass through. This way, you can hold the applicator in one hand and rub the liquid in with the other without worrying about Minoxidil getting everywhere. This is probably the hardest way to do it, but also the most efficient. You’ll also probably want to wash the headband frequently to get rid of the minoxidil it absorbs.
