4 Site SEO Tips to Improve Your Search Engine Rankings

Do you want more traffic to your site? How about traffic with credit cards in your hands?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is an Internet marketing strategy that you can use to increase the number of visitors and improve the quality of traffic to your website. SEO is different from SEM (Search Engine Marketing), which deals with paying for traffic. On-site SEO uses “natural” or “organic” methods to get visitors to visit your site.

The reason why on-site SEO is so important is that proper SEO techniques will help your site rank higher in search engines. And the higher a site appears in the search results, the more visitors it receives. When you make your pages search engine friendly, you will usually have to edit your content and code the HTML correctly. This article goes over some of the most important areas to focus on for your site’s SEO.

Keywords

Keywords are the terms that people type into the search engine’s query box when looking for information about a particular service or product. The first thing you have to decide is which keywords you are going to target. If you target and use keywords that someone looking to buy what you’re selling would search for, your sales should start increasing almost immediately. You can use free and/or paid tools to find these keywords.

Once you’ve found your keywords, there are four main factors that will go into your site’s SEO. They are keyword optimized copy, title tag optimization, meta tag optimization, and image tag optimization.

Keyword optimized text

When you write an article for your website, people should enjoy reading it. They should feel like it was worth their time. After doing this, you’ll want to optimize the article for the keywords you’ve decided to target. Use your main keyword about once every hundred words. Also use what are called Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) words. These are phrases that are associated with your keyword. Use your instinct to tell you where to put them in the article. Nothing should seem forced or out of place.

Your copy should also include a call to action. That’s something you want your reader to do that will get them further down the road to buying your service or product.

Title tag optimization

The title is what appears at the top of a web page when people view it in their browser. Your page title tag should contain your main keyword. If this is the first time you’re optimizing your site, the title tag probably says something like “Welcome to our website” or “Home.” Take the time to make your title relevant and it will set your site apart from the millions of others that still have “Welcome” text.

Meta tag optimization

Next, you’ll want to add a couple of meta tags to your code. These are the Description meta tag and the Keywords meta tag.

Write a twenty-five to fifty word summary about your website and what it offers. This is the description that you will put between the two quotes at the end of the tag. Although it should sound natural, you’ll want to make sure you include keywords in your description.

Put your entire list of the keywords you’ve found between the quotes in the meta tag after “content.”

Optimizing your images

This requires a bit more work. You will need an HTML editor like Dreamweaver or FrontPage. Once you’ve found your images with it, add a small code snippet. Type alt=”” and put your keyword(s) in quotes.

There are a number of more advanced techniques that can further improve your search engine rankings. However, when you use these four techniques, you’ll be way above what most people do when building a website.
