Add voices to your Tom Tom GPS

So … you have your brand new TomTom or Garmin GPS satellite navigation system at home. It has been ripped out of the box and is now enthusiastically connecting to your vehicle in the front unit. The emotion is second to none; the atmosphere can be cut with a knife. You program the unit to take you into town, a route you know so well, but will it tell you the correct route?

“At the end of the road, turn left,” the voice screeches. Oh no, that sounds horrible, I couldn’t listen to it for 4 or 5 hours on a trip. He stops and selects the New Zealand voice. Try the male and then the female, all awful!

Fortunately, there is a market to replace TomTom Voices over the Internet. Go online and search for “TomTom Voices” and you can download a single voice or a selection of voices for around $ 10 per voice. The web-based company TomTom Voices.org has a selection of easy-to-install voices ranging from Clint Eastwood, Elvis, Sean Connery, Stewie and Peter Griffin from ‘A Family Guy’, as well as Beavis and Butthead, the South team. Park and more. Simply select the voices you want (there is often a ‘special’ value pack with 4 voices for a fraction of the individual prices), go to checkout and pay securely with your credit card or via your PayPal account. Payment is always safe, being papal a really safe way to carry out online transactions.

After payment, check your emails. An email receipt of your purchase will be sent to you, along with a link to download your items. Save the file to a location of your choice and unzip it using WinZip or similar. Most people have this on their computers these days. You will end up with a folder with 4 files. One is a character image, the second is a file named ***. Chk with *** your character’s name. Third has ***. Animated file. A document with installation instructions is also included with each download.

Follow the prompts to install your TomTom Voices, select it via your TomTom or TomTom Home device and go for a drive to test it out.

I found these extra voices really make the ride much more enjoyable, the kids love it (be careful not to use the explicit characters with kids in the car) and you can easily change the voices during the ride.

I really recommend getting some additional voices for your TomTom GPS. I love them and I’m sure you will too.
