Carpet Care – Carpet Cleaning Tips To Help Your Floors Look Great!

Keeping the carpet clean in my house is one of my biggest challenges! Carpet care can be one of the most daunting tasks when it comes to house cleaning. However, using these carpet cleaning tips has helped me immensely. So, I thought I’d share them with you.

The first tip is to vacuum every day. Most of the wear and tear on carpets comes from dirt, and oily soil attracts more of the same. Therefore, vacuuming often really helps extend the life of your carpet. If every day seems like too much, a good rule of thumb is to vacuum at least once a week for each person who lives in your home.

Next, be sure to treat stains quickly. Most stains can be removed with some method or product. But the longer the stain is allowed to chemically react with the carpet fibers, the more difficult it will be to remove.

Do a spot test before using any type of cleaner. All rugs are different, and some rugs react poorly to acid or alkali in cleaners. And the last thing you need is a permanent bleach stain or something you can fix!

When treating a stain, always start with the mildest product first. Don’t use harsh chemicals unless absolutely necessary, as they will break down the fibers of the carpet. Be sure to neutralize products with high acid or alkali content when you are done.

Never rub or dig a stain. Instead, gently scrape the stain down to the center, then blot with a white towel or cloth using a meat tenderizer or brush.

Make sure not to use too much carpet cleaning solution. Soap works because it attracts dirt. So if you leave soap on your carpet, it will attract more dirt.

Don’t get your rug too wet. If you add too much water, the stain will simply soak into the pad, making it even more difficult to remove.

If possible, use a carpet extractor. You can buy them for a fairly low price or rent one from your local supermarket. One with rotary scrubbers is best. And the more suction power you have, the better! This will help remove deep-seated dirt and detergent.

If you have a stain, never put a stain remover or carpet protector on it. This will only make the stain more permanent and harder to remove.

When it comes to carpet care, good entrance mats can prevent a lot of dirt from building up on the carpet. Be sure to place one outside the door and one inside the door. And be sure to clean the mats before they get too dirty or become useless.

The best solution for carpet care is simply to vacuum frequently and thoroughly. This is how the rugs are made so that they are taken care of to the maximum. So, get out that vacuum cleaner, put on your headphones and get to work!
