Double Glazed Windows and Home Improvement Quote Websites – Good or Bad?

I have been in the double glazing business for 2 years and going back and forth from potential clients, I started to find that some of the clients had submitted a request through certain quoting websites to receive 3 or more quotes. The type of requests would range from various products including roofing, conservatories, solar panels, windows, and kitchen designs. Some customers were happy with the system, but others were really upset. One client I went to also had 24 companies contact her after only submitting one website and she only wanted 3 quotes. To make matters worse for the customer, she didn’t even know what questions to ask when the salesperson arrived, even though she knew she needed to replace the windows.

Are these listing sites good?

I have now started to question many of these quoting websites and wonder if they offer anything to the customer other than just a quote or give the customer enough ammunition to get the right data and make the best decision for the quality of the product.

When you check out most of the websites that are meant for the person looking for a quote, you start to get the feeling that most of the quoting websites intend for the visitor to request a quote by submitting their information. But it would be nice to find a website that gives the customer as much information about the product they are looking for, whether it is double glazed windows, Grade A PVC conservatories, UPVC roofing or even kitchen designs and not charge the customer money for Getting the Right Information As I looked at many of the websites, I became increasingly frustrated by the number of websites with little to no information about the product that the customer can research.

I think the best type of home improvement quote website would be one that can give the customer as much information as possible. For example, here are some questions the customer should want to ask if they are interested in having replacement windows;

  • What grade of PVC is the window frame made of?
  • What kind of glass is in the window?
  • What are the thermal properties of windows?
  • What kind of draft guard is on the window?
  • What kind of metal is used for the hinges?
  • How long do we really expect our window to last before it starts to degrade?
  • What types of windows are allowed to be installed on my property under current law?

The above are just some of the questions we should ask ourselves if we make a query about double-glazed windows.

I realize that these are the kinds of questions I would want to know if I was doing research on a product. This would allow me to ask the right questions of the window company. But if I don’t know what to ask, how will I know I’m getting a great deal? I know that by being in the home improvement business I have learned a lot of useful information, but I don’t know everything there is to know about kitchen layouts, driveways, alarms, etc. Therefore, I would like to have the right information for each product.

With all the types of listing websites that have been around for quite a few years, I’m sure everyone has either had an experience with these types of sites or knows someone who has used these types of sites. Looking at most of the PVC double glazed window quote websites, do you all think that these quote websites should be the way to go and do you think they should be completely improved to offer all sorts of customer advice and help? , even before asking? to send your data for a quote.

These are some of the intriguing questions that have come up after meeting with potential customers and being informed of their experience.

Your comments are welcome regarding your experience using the listing websites.
