Eating disorder and pregnancy: will anorexia kill the baby?

How do pregnancy and eating disorders work together? A friend of mine was twenty-four when she was pregnant for the first time in her life. It was great news. But I knew from her that she suffered from a severe eating disorder. Could the baby survive? Would he even risk his own life?

Karen was battling anorexia for almost ten years when she found out she was pregnant. He was already in the third month before he knew it. Due to her eating disorder, her period came and went erratically, often never. He also vomited several times a day. It was normal for her. That is why she discovered her pregnancy very late.

Women who suffer from anorexia nervosa or any other eating disorder do not like to go to the doctor. They are afraid that their illness will be discovered. It was the same with Karen, but now she had to do something. He was worried that the baby would die, starve because he was not eating much. I knew I had a problem.

On the Internet he read different stories about anorexic women who were pregnant. Some said their baby died, others said that even their own life was at risk because the baby took in the calories it needed from the mother to survive. Karen was shocked. Could her baby kill her? Panic drove her to the doctor.

An anorexic person suffers from a fatal disease. They die of hunger. It is surprising that a body in this condition can get pregnant. But when it happens, both mother and baby fight for their lives.

Even doctors have different opinions. Some say that the baby would die, others say that the pregnancy is not a problem because the baby would take what he needs. The key, however, is that a woman with an eating disorder seeks professional help during her pregnancy. You could even be hospitalized to get enough vitamins, minerals, and calories during pregnancy. Without help, it easily ends in disaster. With help, pregnancy is not a problem and a woman can have a healthy baby.
