Finance – A Matter of the Heart

Many people who contact us want U.S to solve your problems immediately. While we have the experience to help point people in the right direction, we can’t solve their problems for them. You see, financial difficulty is just a symptom of deeper problems.

Would you go to a doctor and ask them to simply put a steri-strip over an open, infected wound…and send you home? Isn’t it the expectation that the doctor determine the root cause of the problem, then take decisive action to treat the patient? Failure to do so is grounds for malpractice.

Finances should be thought of in the same way. How people use money (or abuse it) stems from what’s in the heart. All of us, out of ignorance, have made really stupid decisions regarding our money. That’s why we got into the situation we were in. What people choose to do at that moment is the crucial factor. We recently received a question from a subscriber that went like this:

“My family’s income is not enough, so I find myself taking loans and credits that only make things worse. I need a serious way to increase my income.” By the way, we ask what is the greatest need of the people they want our help with. This gives us a clue about their way of thinking. Overwhelmingly, the answer to us is the perceived need to “have more income.” The truth is that very few people really need more income.

Instead, what is needed is how to better manage what they already have. Listen, if most people had more money, they would just manage it worse. Look at those who have won the lottery, for example. How many of them have really managed that huge influx of money correctly? No, statistics show that in a short time most of them get divorced, declare bankruptcy, become drug/alcoholic addicts or die prematurely. And this is something to aspire to? It seems to me that money is not the issue here, folks.

No, the truth is that people need to understand that it is not how much they earn, but how much they keep. Our very own book, “Radical Debt Elimination” was written to help the reader establish a solid foundation in life to ensure continued success. Information, whether through our book or others, is available. There’s no lack of “how to’s” these days on just about any subject under the sun.

The really tragic thing for us is how many people really don’t want to change. They want help, but they don’t want to “give up anything.” If their lifestyle was so good (and worth fighting for) that they “just couldn’t quit,” why are they in financial trouble?

Neither we nor anyone else can help people if they don’t want help. What most people are looking for is someone to come and rescue them from their problems. All the wisdom and knowledge of the Lord Himself cannot help people who do not want help. The good news is that once people seek help with the desire to “do whatever it takes” to change their address, then help is available. It is truly an “affair of the heart”.
