Four Easy Home Improvement Projects Under Five Hundred Dollars

Everyone is always looking for cost-effective ways to make home improvements that don’t cost a fortune. But at the same time, people want to have results that have something to show for their time and money spent. Here are some simple projects that cost under $500 for a room or less.

1. Painting a room is always a good way to change the whole look of a room. Especially if you add special touches like 3-tone paint. Most rooms will only require 2-3 gallons of paint to finish an average room. If you are covering a darker color this may require the use of a primer. This is one of the cheapest ways to update your home considering a gallon of quality paint costs around $35.00. With all the supplies and paint it could easily cost less than $150.00.

2. Adding crown molding, like crown molding or a chair rail, is another great way to make a dramatic change in a room. For an average 16′ x 16′ room, the trim and paint to finish your project will cost less than $250.00.

3. Changing the lighting in any room can make a big difference in any room. There are so many options when it comes to designer styles and colors to complement your decor or even add a whole new design element. A chandelier would be the most expensive lighting option for a room, but for an average sized room, it could be well under a $500 budget.

4. Putting new carpet in an average sized room will cost pretty close to $500 for a 15 x 15 room and a carpet that costs $21 to $20 per square yard. This is a medium grade rug that is pretty standard in most homes.

These are just a few project ideas that won’t break the bank. There are many more smaller projects you can do that won’t be as dramatic as these for less money, but these will give you the most bang for your buck.
