How to make your blog consistently deliver fresh content without being tethered to your computer

Are you blogging for your home business, small business, or solopreneur? Constant blogging is a great way to drive traffic to your small business website, build your ezine or mailing list, position yourself as an expert, and serve your target market by consistently providing helpful content.

However, it can be challenging to stay consistent on blogs, especially if you’re a home-based business owner juggling your business and family. So what can you do?

Plan your posts and schedule them in advance! You can write 2-3 posts in a day and have WordPress make them appear on specific dates throughout the week. If you use a plugin like Twitter Tools or connect your site to Network Blogs, it will also save you time by automatically notifying your followers when new posts go live.

So even when life is a little crazy and you don’t have time to blog every day, or several times a week, by writing ahead and scheduling your posts, your blog can make fresh content available to your readers and fans.

Here’s how to schedule a post in WordPress:

  • Create your new blog post as usual (enter your title, post, keywords, categories, and anything else you normally include)
  • On the right side in the post box, find the text “Publish immediately Edit” and click “Edit”
  • You can now enter the date and time you want your blog to publish the post, then click the OK button
  • As you do this, you’ll notice the blue “Publish” button changes to “Schedule.” Click “Schedule”.

That’s it! Now, instead of publishing immediately, your blog will cause your post to publish at the specific future date and time that you set.

Scheduling your blog posts is a great way to save time. You can write multiple posts at once and schedule them to run for multiple days. I tend to do this on the weekends and write anywhere from a couple of posts to a full week of daily posts, then schedule them to appear throughout the week so my blog content stays fresh without needing to sit down and write every days. . By writing multiple posts at once, I only have to get into that “writing mood” once (instead of once for each post) and once I’m focused, I can delete a couple of posts much faster. It works great!
