The Dutch government launched an inquiry into the cause of a nationwide internet outage, which was blamed on a software error. The outage also rendered some emergency services unreachable, though the company did not indicate if the outage had been the result of a security breach. The Netherlands’ government said it would take steps to avoid such a situation occurring again in the future. However, it did not mention what caused the problem, or how it was being fixed.
The Dutch internet provider KPN has a history of Internet outages. This is because they sold off their international activities, including telephony. Now they only serve the Dutch market and sell bundles of services to businesses and consumers. In 2016, the company announced that the Netherlands will be experiencing a significant interruption of service on the KPN network for 30 minutes. During this time, traffic will be rerouted.
During the maintenance, the NN Backbone connection will be unavailable for 30 minutes. Traffic will be rerouted during this time. This will affect UNMC College of Nursing and the Health Science and Education Asterisk. ITS will be replacing two line cards during the outage, but the Sidney High Plains Ag Lab and Doane University will also be affected briefly. These outages are part of the normal maintenance period.

The UNMC College of Nursing will be impacted for a short time. In addition, the Health Science and Education Asterisk will be impacted for a short time as ITS replaces two line cards. During this maintenance period, Doane University and Sidney High Plains Ag Lab will also briefly be affected.
The network connection between KPN and the University of Nebraska is under maintenance. During this time, the NN Backbone connection will be down for 30 minutes. During this time, traffic will be rerouted to other locations. During the maintenance, the UNMC College of Nursing’s Health Science and Education Asterisk will be affected for less than 5 minutes. During this time, ITS will be replacing two line cards. While Doane University and the Sidney High Plains Ag Lab will be briefly impacted, the two institutions will also experience short-term outages.
