Is a golf course your home?

Today, many golf course houses are springing up across the country. More and more people are considering buying a house on a golf course. Before you proceed to purchase a golf course home, it is important that you understand the pros and cons of a golf course home so you can decide if a golf course home is right for you.

Advantages of a Golf Course House:

1. Golf course homes are very beautiful because of the privacy it offers, the great view, and an open space in the back of your home. Looking at the grass and trees is very relaxing and can relieve stress, just like having a park behind your house.

2. You can wander out the back door at any time and play a hole or two at any time of the day, even at sunset.

3. Living in a golf course community means you don’t have close neighbors in the backyard looking into your private space. Normally, you only have neighbors on each side of the house or around the corner. The nearest neighbor is usually across the street and the distance depends on how wide the golf course fairways are.

4. Our young community is family oriented and most children have an interest in learning to play golf at a very young age and can even play up to nine holes after school.

5. A golf home is quiet and you will enjoy peaceful living with less traffic noise and minimal volume of cars.

6. Since these communities are gated, you are assured of living safely.

7. You can delightfully find errant golf balls in your backyard.

8. You will be able to enjoy not only the golf course, but also many more amenities and facilities that are tailored to your needs and preferences.

Disadvantages of a golf course house:

1. Expect weekends to be filled with noise from the golf course. Maintenance staff typically come between 6am and 7am each day to mow the lawn, relocate pins, and fix bunkers. Others appear before dawn and the headlights of the new team can shine directly into your bedroom windows that overlook the golf course.

2. Your windows could be broken by golf balls. This happens, depending on how narrow the streets are. Depending on where your house is located along the course, it could be a regular occurrence. Homeowners insurance may or may not pay for damage from golf balls. Not only windows, but the siding of the house can also be knocked into, furniture damaged, and screen porches torn.

3. Since having more nature in your backyard could also mean more animals and critters around. The golf course often attracts toads, frogs, snakes, and birds, among others. While these can be extremely nice to look at, you need to be careful about what may be lurking in your fences and yard. The animals in the ponds can also be extremely noisy at different times of the year.

4. Aerosols from the golf course may find their way into your yard and affect the plants you have. Be careful what you plant along the back that connects the area maintained by the golf course. Chemicals can cause bushes to turn brown and lose their leaves.

5. The chance of spraining an ankle on turfs taken by unruly golfers who promptly ignore home out-of-bounds bets, trespass and dig trenches with recovery shots.

6. You must take care of what you use most of the time while you are at home and put up with comments from passers-by.

7. The discord of tractors, lawnmowers, beeping golf carts, leaf blowers, and the rare misdirected golf ball that resonates off stucco or ceiling tile like a gunshot.

In general, there are many factors to consider when purchasing a home on a golf course. These factors could include proximity to work, major roadways, family, schools, entertainment, and more. Homes in these communities can vary from condominiums to luxury custom homes. Whether you overlook a portion of the course fairway or near a quiet cul-de-sac, you’re sure to find the perfect golf course for you and your family.

Having considered the advantages and disadvantages of a golf course home, it is important to carefully weigh your options before proceeding to purchase golf course property.
