So let’s talk about making homemade soap. You will be very surprised by the large number of people who love to make homemade soap. If you type homemade soap in Google search you will find about 1,930,000 results. That’s a lot of fans of soap making.

Soap making can be a fun and, yes, even profitable project. Many people started out making soap just for their own family, then gave their friends some to try, and lo and behold, they soon found themselves in a home soap making business! Some of these people even created their own personal brand of soap.

Like every new business, there will be a lot of things you will need to make soap. The first most important thing is do you have a room in your house to do this? The room must have a lock on the door so that children do not enter. They could be injured by some of the chemicals used to make soap.

Things you will need to make soap:

rubber gloves

Large bowls or containers to measure the oils

Small containers or pitcher to measure your fragrance oils and liquid oils

soap mold

glasses

Old shirt with long sleeves

Glass, stainless steel or plastic equipment

Once you have all the materials and equipment to make soap, you would go online and type “soap making” into the Goggle search box. You will find all kinds of soap making recipes and supplies so you can start making your own soap.

I recently received a box of homemade soap products courtesy of Vermont Soap Organics, purveyors of everything from cleansers for washing up countertops to sultry body washes for the shower and tub.

Think about it! If you went to a market and had 2 stalls lined up next to each other, one selling commercial brand soap products and the other selling homemade soap products probably at the same price since they are so cheap to make and the other stall is selling handmade soap. Which would you buy? Of course it would be the homemade soap. It is the obvious choice.

Create a website. A website helps you establish an online presence. Give potential customers around the world 24/7 access to your business. It also makes it easy to display and sell your homemade soap products. Through their website, you can accept credit card payments, which makes the selling process much easier. Soap making isn’t very difficult to do if you’re just armed with a little information. Soap is the result of combining fats with a kind of caustic agent like lye using water as a catalyst. Armed with a little knowledge, it’s possible to twist the good batch of soap with things that can also be purchased at most grocery stores.

Before you start making handmade soaps, you will need to purchase soap making tools and equipment. Depending on your budget, you can buy new soap making equipment or you can buy used soap making tools from other detergent manufacturers who are offering their soap making business for sale. You can even use your kitchen utensils for that purpose, plus buy some of the soap making equipment that wouldn’t be available at home.

Who knows, maybe you will start a successful home soap making business.

One of those successful people is a woman named Emilya. Emilya started making soaps and cleaning products at home and grew it into a $10 million business in just a few years.

Most of us won’t get rich making homemade soap products, but we will enjoy being creative, save money in the long run, and enjoy making our own soap products. I am pretty sure that with a little effort most of us could make some money selling our soap products to friends and local shops. You can publish some advertisements in newspapers and place posters with images of our products on bulletin boards. Who knows where this can take you.

Good luck and God bless you.
