Making the perfect barbecue pit

The cavemen were not always barbarous in their daily life, between gathering food and beating one and the other with large sticks, they used the open-air oven known as a grill. Our cave brothers knew what they were doing when they smoked turkey and chickens over the embers of the hole, unknowingly they were developing a cooking method that is still used today. The BBQ pit is a great way to cook, meet friends, and spice up that boring patio of yours.

Barbecue grills are traditionally used by restaurants, foodies, and outdoor enthusiasts, but they are becoming more popular in our backyards. Grill location is the first essential ingredient in making this outdoor oven work for you and your family. I would not recommend placing the barbecue pit in your front yard if you live on a busy street, your next door neighbors might think you are trying to send smoke signals to the sky to rescue you. On the other hand, if you live on a farm or ranch, a barbecue pit in your front yard might be just what your doctor ordered. The most logical way to choose a location for your grill is away from leaves, trees, and anything that could catch fire. That said, it can also be a fashionable landmark if you place it in the center of your backyard, as long as the well doesn’t cause anything near it to catch fire.

Once you’ve selected the perfect location for your barbecue pit, it’s time to start digging. Typically you’ll want to dig about 5 feet into the ground and create a circle large enough to house a metal grate of the size you want. Once the hole is dug, it should be lined with wood or charcoal of your choice. Make sure to choose the correct wood or embers because this is what will generate that smoky flavor. Many wood fans opt for walnut or oak woods to burn in their pits, while charcoal is usually a basic charcoal bought from the supermarket.

You don’t need a wooden robe and stick to cook on your new grill. Many have the idea that Neanderthal ovens are made for Neanderthal food, but this is not the case. Feel free to add some vegan burgers or some exotic tilapia fish. Whatever your delicacy, it will cook to perfection on your earth grill.

The final step is to make the well family-friendly by adding wooden stools in a circular shape a few feet from the well. This will take toasted marshmallows to the next level.
